Nani ke ghar ja rahe hai.
I know because Mama has been walking around the house picking up my things since morning. My blue elephant nightsuit is already on the bed. That always goes first. Mama says it is because I sleep funny without it.
I think it is because the elephants are very good at keeping bad dreams away.

What I Need When I Sleep at Nani's House
Nani's house is not scary. It smells like chai and she lets me stay up a little bit late. But my bed is not there. My pillow is not there. So the bag has to have the right things or the night feels too long.
Here is what always goes in:
🌙 My nightsuit - The soft one with the blue elephants. Mama says it is pure cotton, hand block printed, made by hand by people in Jaipur. I just know it is the one I sleep best in. It goes in first. Always.
👕 One set of clothes for tomorrow - Because Nani will want me to look nice at breakfast. She always notices.
🧦 Extra socks - I lose one sock every single time. Nobody knows where it goes. Extra socks are very important.
🪥 My toothbrush - The yellow one. Not the green one. The yellow one.
🧸 Bhalu - He is my bear. He has been everywhere I have been. He is not optional.
💊 My medicine - Mama writes a note so Nani knows when to give it. The note also says I do not like the syrup and need it mixed in juice. Nani does this without even being asked.
📝 Mama's note - She tucks it in the small pocket. I am not supposed to read it until bedtime. I always read it on the way there.
What I Need When I Go on a School Trip
School trips are different from Nani's house. There is a bus. There is a lot of noise. Everyone is very excited and nobody sleeps properly the first night.
This is why the nightsuit is even more important on school trips.
🌙 One nightsuit for every night - Mama packs one for each night and writes my name on the label. She says cotton is best because I get sweaty when I am excited and cotton does not make it worse. She is right about this one.
👕 Clothes for each day plus one extra - The extra is for the day I spill something. There is always a day I spill something.
🩴 Two pairs of shoes - One for walking a lot. One for the evening when my feet need a rest.
🎒 Small bag inside the big bag - For the days when we go out and I do not need everything.
🧴 Sunscreen and mosquito spray - Mama puts these in herself. I am not in charge of these.
💊 Medicine with instructions - Same note as always. My teacher gets a copy too.
🍫 Two chocolates - Only two. One for the first night when I miss home a little. One for the last night to celebrate.
📞 My emergency card - It has Mama's number and Papa's number and my blood group. I keep it in the small zip pocket. I have never needed it but it makes me feel very responsible to have it.
The Most Important Thing in the Bag
My nightsuit.
Not because Mama says so. Because when everything else is different - the bed, the pillow, the sounds, the ceiling - the nightsuit is the same.
It smells like home. It feels like every other night. And when I put it on, even in a strange place, I know it is time to sleep and everything is okay.
Mama says that is what pure cotton does. It just feels right.
I think the elephants help too.

What is the best nightwear for kids on a school trip? Pure cotton nightsuits - lightweight, breathable, easy to pack, and gentle on skin after an active day. Pack one per night and label each one clearly.
How many outfits should I pack for a 2 night school trip? Two outfits plus one extra, one nightsuit per night, and an extra pair of socks. Keep the bag light enough for the child to manage independently.
What fabric is best for kids sleepwear while travelling? Pure cotton. It breathes well, dries quickly, and does not irritate sensitive skin - especially important when children are tired and in unfamiliar surroundings.
